Flagging comments

I don't think it's enough to just flag blogs. I think being able to flag comments as offensive would also be useful.

Oh good grief I agree whole-heartedly. Some folk come on trying to stir it up and it gets a bit wearing after a while. I want to avoid blogs they comment on which means I lose that friend. Seems that's the only option so far. x

I'm still trying to work out a Greasemonkey/Stylish script that would remove a certain user's comments but I don't think it's possible unfortunately :))

Pity ;) And a pity that you should even have to try.

I was actually wondering what level of abusive you have to get to before it's a deletable offence...

I suppose tone might come into it, too. I'm not saying it would be easy to define, but then again, I imagine a lot of blogs get flagged which aren't offensive to everyone.

Like, if I called Landers a piss-drinking tiny-cheese-cocked fanny head, it's 'offensive', but he'd giggle.

If someone - I don't know WHO - called you worthy of employment by Hitler, I might flag it.

To be fair... I look DAMN good in black...

Really? Well then I retract my suggestion, anything goes :))

Bugger the flagging. I am on the brink of announcing a full scale deletion policy.

That's all well and good but, like flagging blogs, it's all very subjective.

I think a simple 'report as offensive' link on a comment would help, in order to be able to spot trends with particular bloggers or blogs.

We're all capable of being offensive, some just do it more than others.

Also some people, like you, do it with a lot more charm than other people. And on the spur of the moment. Some of the comments we are talking about seem to involve studied malice. Hard to prove, but they leave a nasty taste.

Charmingly, spontaneously offensive. That's going on my CV.

Studied malice  it's been going on for ages, Alec. She didn't have a blog for a long time, just used others blogs to comment on people. There are at least 7 of us who are sick to the back teeth of it. Including yourself. She seems to think we've encouraged each other in annoyance at her. But I happen to know she's pissed everyone off separately. Really tired of it. x

She had a blog registered but never used it for posts. Unfortunately, I encouraged her to start writing in the optimistic belief she might become more appreciative of others' efforts. This here is the first time - apart from a PM to soy yesterday - that I have ever communicated my frustration, except directly to her.

That's enough guys and dolls, don't want this post to be All About Her as well. Flagging comments can't be done, so just email anything you don't like.

I tried to ask her to stop but she wouldn't. She kept trying to bait me. I think a friend asked her to stop and she's mostly behaved since then. I've noticed she still hogs conversations on other folk's blogs though.

She's had several blogs but has deleted posts repeatedly. Usually slagging off other bloggers for being so dull as to ... blog.

I'm not sure that this will be implemented, for a couple of reasons:

1) comments, unlike blogs/profiles, can be deleted by users (the owner of the blog on which the comment was made), as well as moderated.

2) in general, when a user is flagged, we check everything - blog, profile, media, recent comments. If a violation of the Terms of Service is found, the user is either deleted or receives a mail from us requesting that they adhere to the ToS or face deletion.

All that said, feel free to drop a mail to support@blog.co.uk with a link to any comments that may violate the ToS.

I hadn't realised you checked their recent comments, I thought it was just their own profile and blog. The only issue I see is that even though a blog owner can moderate and delete comments, if any offensive comment is directed at someone else on their blog but they DON'T see a problem with it, there's nothing the recipient if it can do. Other than email you.

It's simply a very annoying issue that pops up time and time again and it gets so tiresome.
