Help Blogs :: Ideas

Avatars & Spammers

It seems to me that spammers and other robotic or automatic posters could be discouraged from creating blogs, if having to upload a proper avatar was made compulsory.

It would also be good for the general look of the blog-site. All those default grey silhouettes are very boring.

But some of us are too thick to know how to make an avatar, (I just had to look it up to find out what one was!!!!!) :)

So you eventually managed to prove you're better than a robot - well done! ;)

/me agree

that is a really GOOD idea, and i do like to see what weird or wonderful pic people choose to represent themselves.

we do not want to force people into uploading something, for some people this is all just too "techy" thes just want to write stuff in there blog and fine.

You've missed the point. I was looking for a task that would discourage spammers from opening blogs just to clog up the servers and irritate the genuine bloggers. Uploading an avatar is such a task and I've no doubt would stop many of the more automated spammers in their tracks.

we do not have a big problem with spam blogs ... most spam blogs we dont want are companies, which upload avatars all the time ... automatically created blog spam is very very rare (
